Using Essential Oils to Support the Lymphatic System
More and more people are understanding the importance of our lymphatic system in regards to our well-being. The lymphatic system complements the circulatory system and is a crucial player in our ability to ward off disease and heal from injury. Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system does not have a pump to circulate or move the lymphatic fluid. Try these habits to support the lymphatic system, as well as blending with the appropriate essential oils.
In many other countries, the lymphatic is recognized for its importance in preventative health care. The system is generally known to support every other system in our body including the digestion, immune, and nervous system. It even has a role in weight management. To support the lymphatic system, use these tips and exercises.
Try Dry Brushing to Support the Lymphatic System
Dry brushing stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic system to help eliminate toxins and relieve lymphatic congestion. Another amazing benefit that most women will appreciate is the diminishing of cellulite, which is basically toxins that accumulate in fat cells.
Encourage Lymphatic Drainage
As massage therapists, we have extensive training in Lymphatic drainage. This modality of bodywork uses very light pressure because the lymphatic system is directly below the surface of the skin and does not require a lot of pressure to help move lymph fluid along.
Use Rebounding to Support the Lymphatic System
A rebounder is like a indoor trampoline. By simply jumping we help to move the lymphatic fluid to reduce the toxins in our body. It also a great way to just move and have fun!
Walk to Support the Lymphatic System
Walking is a simple and easy way to get the lymphatic system moving – and you don’t have to buy any tools! All exercise will help move lymphatic fluid in our body, but most of us can just get up and walk a bit. Enjoy the outdoors and breathe, while benefiting your overall health and well being!
Use Essential Oils to Support the Lymphatic System
There are several essential oils and blends that we can make to help support our lymphatic system.
Most well-known is Juniper berry (Juniperus communis). Here in Sedona, the locals will go out and collect Juniper berries to make a tea that helps with the lymphatic and urinary systems.
Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) is another common essential oil used for the lymphatic system and detoxification. Our suggestion would be to choose Steam distilled Grapefruit, as to avoid any phototoxic reaction.
Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is also one of the more common essential oils chosen to help the lymphatic system. (Our personal favorites are Mastic (Pistacia lentiscus). It has been studied to be a powerful antioxidant and has an affinity for the circulatory system.
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has been used by the ancient people who understand that there is morphological aspect to the Yarrow plant. If you look at the leaves of the Yarrow plant, they resemble the circulatory system. Remember, the circulatory system and the lymphatic system are parallel or sister systems within our bodies. Typically, if an essential oil is beneficial for the circulatory system it will also be beneficial for the lymphatic system.
